When is Black Friday 2015

When is Black Friday?
In 2015 Black Friday will take place on Friday, November 27, 2015!  This year it will be the last weekend of November, which is the same as it has been the last 2 years.  There are only 4 weeks between Black Friday and Christmas, so it is essential to get your shopping done on this day.

When was Black Friday first Started?
The shopping holiday was first started in the 1960’s.  It refers to stores moving their accounting dollars from red to black.  From January to October stores operate at a loss of income and then November and December they make up for the losses and move into the black, or positive cashflow.

However, it was the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in 1924 that was the first unofficial start to the holiday season.  Black Friday actually started and gained traction after this event.  It is amazing that almost a century later we are still celebrating the parade and Black Friday!

How did Black Friday Gain Traction?
Retailers look for every opportunity to make a dime.  Black Friday fit in perfectly with their mission to make money, so they started promoting special sales, longer store hours, and free in-store gifts.  Consumers like the freebies and discounts that are given away on this day, so they take part in it.  It is a win-win holiday!  Consumers get products at a discount and retailers make more money.
